What is Sloyd? My favorite definition of Sloyd comes from Jogge Sundquist who said that a person practicing Sloyd is "not un-crafty". Sloyd is based on skills sharing & the use of hand tools to learn crafts, primarily woodwork, but could also include paper-folding, sewing, embroidery, knitting, and crochet. The word sloyd comes from the Swedish word slöjd, which means crafts, handicraft, or handiwork.
What is Sloyd Sunday? Sloyd Sunday is an event that we've been helping to organize for a while now. We've been doing it (kind of) every other Sunday. A time to gather and explore a craft together - or you can always bring your own project and just share space with others who like to be crafty.
-Sloyd Sunday encourages community resiliency by sharing practical skills and
strengthening friendships.

Where is Sloyd Sunday? Our flavor of Sloyd Sunday takes place in Southeastern Vermont. Often on East Mountain in Guilford, but the location does change from time to time. (we have an email newsletter that tells the when, where, and what of Sloyd Sunday)
How do I join the Sloyding? Email Mike and ask him to add you to our Sloyd Sunday email chain!

Sloyd Schedule:
- April 13 - Wooden Hay Fork Making
- We'll split blanks out of a large oak log and then shape, carve, and steam bend the tines and handle of a wooden hay fork.
- None of us have made a wooden hay fork yet, so this will be a fun experiment in Green Woodworking! But if Mr. Chickadee can do it, so can we.
- Here's a bit of geneology of green woodworking as it relates to hayforks.
- Lunchtime Discussion - Share your jokes. Laughter is medicine.

- June 8 - Scything to make hay!
- We've been anxious to do some Sloyd Scything for a few years now and we're determined to do it this year!
- I really love scything. Some of the most tranquil moments of my human existence have been out in the dewy grass early in the morning when it's cool and still - and I'm quietly slicing my scythe through the succulent grass.
- We'll discuss the parts of a scythe, different scythe types, how to use & sharpen them, and then go out and slice through some grass to make hay!
- Bring your own scythe or use one of ours.
- I'm hoping we can also talk about grain cradles and how they work to harvest grain with a scythe as well.

- Oct 3 - 5 Sloyd Weekend Campout!
- We're planning a weekend-long campout where we'll share sloyd skills, stories around the fire, food, and anything else we can think of. I hope you can join us. More details to come - save the date!
- That's what we've got for now. If you have any questions or comments, email Mike!
